What Can I Use the NIH Grant For?
Your project must be:
- Health-related or biomedical
- Focused on technological innovation
- Aimed at eventual commercialization
- Able to meet NIH’s mission to improve human health
Research Institution Involvement: What’s Permitted?
- SBIR: Collaborations with universities or research institutions are optional, but only 33% of NIH SBIR Phase I research can be outsourced.
- STTR: Collaboration with a nonprofit research institution is required.
- At least 40% must be done by the small business.
- At least 30% of the work must be performed by the research institution.
